Christmas in Rotterdam: an illuminated skyline, Sinterklaas and a tree at home
In winter the towers of Kop van Zuid, the Erasmus Bridge and the Markthal form one of the most striking illuminated skylines in Europe. But in Rotterdam, too, Christmas only starts after Sinterklaas. Order in November and the box is ready; put your tree up on 6 December and it stays perfect until Epiphany.

Tree collection in January? Not with an artificial tree
In January the City of Rotterdam collects real Christmas trees at drop-off points and on neighbourhood rounds. But the tree has to go down in the lift first, it leaves a trail of needles in the hallway and you have to stick to the collection dates.
An artificial tree can be packed away after use. Slip it into the storage bag, put it in your building's storage unit and bring it out again next year.
Beyond Rotterdam: Dordrecht, Voorne and the coast at Hoek van Holland
