Christmas candles & candle holders

A tealight holder does what no string of lights can: it diffuses the light instead of showing it. In glass, pierced metal or wood, it shields the flame from draughts and casts reflections across the table and walls. Group three or five at different heights and your Christmas table decoration gains far more than from a single candle.

Among the candles you will find scented candles in the flavours of the season — pine, cinnamon, orange and spice — alongside unscented ones for those who want the flame without the fragrance. Tealights remain the most versatile format: they fit almost any holder or lantern and are replaced in seconds.

Two safety rules worth repeating in December: never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep it well away from anything that can catch — the branches of a real Christmas tree, paper garlands, curtains. If you want the light without the flame, LED candles give the same effect with none of the risk — the sensible choice near a tree or in a house with children.
