More than 150 wooden chalets from Sint-Baafsplein to Korenmarkt, a real ice rink beneath the Stadshal, a Ferris wheel and lights across the whole centre — 2.5 million visitors last year, the most visited event in Ghent. That is the benchmark: by the time the city opens its winter zone, your tree is already up.

Last season most of our Ghent deliveries went to the city centre, then Gentbrugge, Sint-Amandsberg and Drongen, and out to the green belt around Sint-Martens-Latem and Melle.

This is the question that stops a Ghent flat from buying a real tree. The answer is simple: in January IVAGO runs one Christmas tree collection round through Ghent and Destelbergen. You put the tree out on the day shown on your collection calendar, and that's it. Nothing to book, no collection service to pay for, no need to be home, and no fixed date imposed on you.

• Undecorated trees only — no baubles, no garlands, no plastic pot.
• Not out too early, and don't block pavements or cycle paths.
• Your date is on your collection calendar, in the Recycle!App or on the IVAGO website.
• Or take it to a recycling park — Proeftuinstraat, Gaardeniersweg, Jan Samijnstraat in Gentbrugge, Drongen or Destelbergen.

Living outside Ghent and Destelbergen — Melle, Merelbeke, Sint-Martens-Latem, Lochristi? Collection runs through your own intermunicipal waste company, usually in the first weeks of January. A service run by IVAGO, independently of Sapins.be.

Payment

Pay for your tree with eco-vouchers

A natural Christmas tree is a living product, which places it in the categories covered by the Belgian eco-voucher. You can pay for all or part of your order with your electronic Pluxee, Edenred or Monizze vouchers — few Christmas tree shops accept them; here you can.

If your vouchers don't cover the full amount, you top it up with another payment method. Secure payment; delivery costs are calculated at checkout based on your postcode.

When will my tree be delivered in Ghent?

On a Tuesday or a Thursday, between 20 November and 20 December. You choose your date at checkout and get a text as soon as the driver sets off. December dates fill up from November onwards.

What do I do with the tree after the holidays?

IVAGO runs a collection round through Ghent and Destelbergen in January. Put the tree out undecorated on the day shown on your calendar, without blocking the pavement or cycle path. You can also drop it at a recycling park.

Cut or potted for a flat?

Cut. A potted tree makes sense if you have a garden to replant it in — in the city centre the cut tree is the trouble-free choice, precisely because IVAGO takes it away.

Do I need to be there for the delivery?

Yes, someone has to take the tree in, since we carry it inside. The text at departure tells you when we're on the way.

Will you carry the tree upstairs?

Yes. Our drivers bring it into the room you choose, stairs included. Give the floor at checkout — it's daily life in central Ghent.

How much is delivery in Ghent?

Costs are calculated at checkout from your postcode, so you know the amount before you confirm. That price covers more than transport: we carry the tree into the room you point to and take the netting away with us.

Is a stand included?

You choose at checkout between a wooden cross and a stand with a water reservoir. We recommend the latter: topping it up daily is what keeps your Nordmann fresh longest.
